By private car or taxi (easiest)
Most visitors book a private driver or use a ride hailing app. It’s comfortable, door to door and good value when shared between two or more people. Ask your stay: many can arrange pickups.
By train
The scenic coastal railway runs from Colombo along the south coast to Matara, with an extension towards Beliatta. From there, take a tuk tuk to Hiriketiya. Book reserved seats in advance in peak season.
By bus
Express buses run along the Southern Expressway to Matara and beyond; local buses stop in Dikwella, a short walk or tuk tuk from the bay. Cheapest option, least comfortable with luggage or surfboards.
Getting around
Everything in the bay is walkable. For Dikwella, the hill villas or day trips, use tuk tuks or rent a scooter (you’ll need a valid licence and local permit).
