Three days is the sweet spot: enough to surf, eat well, explore the coast and still have a lazy afternoon.
Day 1: settle into the bay
- Breakfast: Malkoha for breakfast and coffee.
- Morning: swim or take a surf lesson on the beach break.
- Afternoon: a long, slow afternoon at The Ruin.
- Sunset: Pehebiya Beach, right next door.
- Night: see what is on tonight.
Day 2: explore by scooter
- Breakfast: hoppers at Duni’s Hopper, the local favourite.
- Morning: ride to Blue Beach Island in Nilwella, about 10 to 15 minutes away, for a swim and a snorkel.
- Afternoon: snorkel at Turtle Point near Bathigama. Keep your distance from the turtles and never touch them.
- Evening: sunset drinks at Raa or the view from Betaz.
- Dinner: the cheap and very good buffet at Kave Waves.
Day 3: slow down
- Morning: sauna and cold plunge at Maha Sauna, then a massage at Massage Shed.
- Lunch: La Playa, an all day beach hangout.
- If it is Saturday: the local Dikwella Market.
- Night: dinner and cocktails at Smoke & Bitters, then the beer garden at ClearPoint if you want to meet people.
Hiriketiya changes fast. Event nights and opening hours move around, so check tonight in Hiriketiya and ask locally.
